Resistance as JOY

Rediscovering aliveness, pleasure and the power of collective joy.

When the world feels heavy, joy can feel frivolous.

Something we should save for when the work is done, everyone else is okay, or things feel a little less uncertain.

But what if joy isn’t something we have to earn?

What if laughter, music, movement, creativity and celebration are not separate from the things we care about, but part of what sustains us?

Resistance as Joy is a three-part live online journey exploring the relationship between our personal wellbeing and our capacity to remain connected to others and the wider world.

We’ll explore:

  • Beyond distraction: Noticing the difference between numbing out and genuinely nourishing ourselves.
  • Permission to enjoy: Understanding the guilt, expectations and responsibilities that can make pleasure feel difficult.
  • Joy as collective energy: Exploring play, creativity, connection and the role of shared enjoyment in sustaining hope and solidarity.

This isn’t about forced positivity or ignoring the difficult things happening around us.

There’s room for anger, grief and uncertainty alongside pleasure and celebration.

We’ll also make connections with our wider Resistance Rhythm themes, including how using our voices, taking part in our communities and making space for rest can support our capacity for joy.

With local elections taking place during the wider 2027 programme, we’ll invite reflection on how personal and collective voices can contribute to thoughtful civic participation.
